Cindy Cohn: It's the Intermediaries, Stupid!

As part of the University of Chicago Legal Forum's 2007 symposium, "Law in a Networked World," Cindy Cohn, Legal Director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation provided a very interesting and entertaining keynote address. The talk, entitled "It's the Intermediaries, Stupid!" looks at the legal issues surrounding "intermediaries" - those companies, like internet service providers, that are responsible for actually transmitting data between parties on the Internet. These organizations, she argues, will be a primary legal battleground for both those who wish to promote online freedoms and those who wish to curtail them.
